Today I have the hono(u)r of being the featured post at Scary Mommy, a parenting community for those of us that don’t always take parenting so…er….seriously. Jill Smokler, the creator, has done more than just create a blog for those “Please tell me I’m not alone” parenting moments, but has founded a whole community. A little anti-utopia for those that realize that being good enough, sometimes, is far more realistic that the extreme sport that parenting has become.
A Stupid Hill to Die On, my piece, is about the wisdom behind picking your battles, acknowledging there’s a good chance that somewhere down the line you’re going to realize it wasn’t the best battle to pick. A stupid hill to die on. In this particular case, it’s about my loathing of sweat pants in the classroom….
So go and check it out. It’s a great source for parents, especially for those moments when it’s important to realize you’re not alone out there….

Good for you. Well deserved.

“As ye reap, so shall ye sew”. Ok, I might have got that a little wrong. But Robert Smith hair? No way does sweat pants touch that. The Karma Police are going to make sure you make amends for that, I can assure you. Kudos for the Siouxsie reference, nonetheless. And congratulations on the recognition of your superior wordsmithing abilities. Well done! 🙂

Thank you! Nice Radio Head reference–alternatively, Karma Chameleon Police (2 for the price of 1??). My husband and I always say our children will revolt by joining the Young Republicans Club and wearing navy blazers. I draw the line at re-sewing on little gold buttons, however. And thank you–if I ever have business cards printed, I’m going with Supreme Wordsmith. It has a nice ring to it.
