Beach Reads

Friends, ’tis the season for beach reads.

Which is why it’s the perfect time to tell you that for the rest of the summer (or at least the northern hemisphere summer), both It’s a Lot to Unpack and There’s Some Place Like Home are available to download for $0.99.

That’s it. Less than a buck. And significantly less than a cup of coffee these days.

Hard to beat, right?

If you’ve been meaning to check out my books, if you’re curious, or if you just want to help a gal out, now is definitely the time. Grab those Kindle/ebook versions–even if you already have the paperback.

Why?

Book sales are influenced by the almighty algorithm, which means the more people who download the book, the more it shows up on those ubiquitous “If you like Eat, Pray, Love, you might like It’s a Lot to Unpack” lists, which in turn drives more traffic and more potential readers who might never have seen it otherwise.

If your Kindle/eBook reader is linked with Goodreads, even opening up a book you’ve downloaded shows that you’re reading it which, in turn, drives more traffic and more potential readers.

As an independent author, it’s really, really hard to drive that kind of traffic to your work, especially when you’re writing the type of stuff I write. Without a marketing team or budget, you just don’t get that kind of exposure, even if your work is good.

So this is me, hand in hat, asking you to download my book or books for $0.99.

If you know someone who would enjoy It’s a Lot to Unpack and There’s Some Place Like Home, here’s your chance to be an awesome friend and gift them a Kindle copy (just hit the buy for others button on the book’s Kindle page). I might be slightly biased, but I think that anyone who has experienced living outside their comfort zone or struggled to figure out who they are or even just felt like they got lost along the way will find something relatable.

You don’t even have to lie to me and say you read it. Though obviously, I’d love it if you did. And if you do, I’d love to hear what you think.

All of this leads to my second reason for reaching out.

In September, I am co-hosting a summer book club!

Along with Catriona Turner who wrote Nest: A Memoir of Life on the Move and Keri Bloomfield, the author of Nothing Like a Dane: The Real Life Search for Hygge in Denmark, we’ll be talking all things international.

Spaces are limited so if you’d like to join, reach out to me on Instagram and and let me know. You can find more details here.

As for me, this summer I’m reading for fun rather than enlightenment–there are a few reasons why, which I get into in a little bit more detail in my August newsletter. If you haven’t signed up for that yet, you can do so here. But here’s a confession: I’ve never read Sophie Kinsella’s Confessions of a Shopaholic until now. When I said I was taking it easy, I’m not lying.

Whatever you’re reading these days, stay cool.
